EJ Trumpold (and daughter Bailey)

Our latest spotlight - a father and daughter workout together
I was pushing 40 years old and still trying to quit smoking last
year. My wife and I finally got it just a week before New Years 2006 on
our vacation. We had not smoked for several weeks and because we were
taking medication to help we went to see the doctor every week (also
had to get on a scale) I slowly noticed my weight going up in small
increments of 4-5 lbs; my wife noticed right away. Yes, I had finally
gained 35lbs and was a little plump around the middle. I kept thinking
I would just start working out and go back to normal but the weeks
passed by and the months came and went. I haven't gained any more
weight by summertime but I haven’t lost any ether.
Then June rolls around and it’s had been 6 months since
I quit smoking. My wife and I have already made plans for our 15
anniversary. We are going to Hawaii and using our cigarette money to do
it. We have already booked a beachfront condo and bought plane tickets,
so there is no going back now. She had been hinting a lot that she
wasn’t going to take a fat man with her to Hawaii. I laughed and said
I'll be fine.
When you get into
a rhythm it's hard to get out. There were no more smoke breaks for me,
but I would come home, eat and watch TV. At work I had a job were I did
a lot of sitting so I would be lucky to burn 3 calories all day and
with the new sweet tooth I acquired it was getting worse. But it wasn’t
any of that that helped me to be on the road I am now. I own six acres
of land and mowing is a big chore on the weekend. One day I was mowing
the back yard and ran out of gas! I had to walk up hill to get the gas
can and go to the store to buy more gas, as I got further up the hill I
was running out of breath. Then the land got flat (yea!!!), but this
did not help. I walked up hill 70 ft. and across the yard by the poll
barn 100 ft. Then found myself in the kitchen gasping for air. I was
bent over holding my knees breathing deeply and thinking, “I am out of
shape! Even after not smoking for 6 months I could not breathe.
I
went to work the next day and was talking to the boss about it and he
had just shown me a card for a company called "Jazzercise". I took the
card and went to see a lady named Kris that week than started the
following Monday. I leave
for work at 6:30 am and drop my daughter off at the babysitters in the
morning so she can get on the bus to school. I work till 6pm at
night. Then go to Jazzercise at 6:30 till 7:30 and home by 8:00. This
is now keeping me pretty busy and away from my baby girl. Bailey is her
name and “Princess” is what I call her; she is daddy's little girl and
without daddy 4-5 times a week she has getting a little sad. She asked
one day if she could go to class with me. Since I cannot say no to her
I of course said yes. :) She said she was just going to watch, but
slowly made her way into class and started doing some body
sculpting. She said afterwards she wants to come again with me.
After 2+
months I can breathe a lot better. I can do a Lou class on Monday and
still walk up the stairs after class. We as a family are now eating
healthier, watching what we eat and when we eat. We’re getting into a
different rhythm; one that will help us live longer. This is all coming
so easy after the first few classes. It wasn’t drilled into my head, it
just happened. I hope to look great in my Speedo on the beach in Hawaii
in December.
Lou's class is the one my princes does not go to. She does not
try real hard in class but she is there with me, hugging me till class
starts going and riding with dad after class. I think she is there for
me and enjoys the time we spend together with no mom or brother to
bother us. This is something only we share together. I get my workout
time to stay healthy and she gets her daddy time to feel loved.
